California Governor issues letter celebrating American Clean Power Week

Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) has issued a letter acknowledging American Clean Power Week and celebrating the state’s “nation-leading efforts” to transition to a 100% clean energy system. With 485,000 clean energy jobs [1] across the state, Newsom’s letter notes that California receives 33% of its power from renewable energy sources and is making “tremendous strides” toward decarbonizing the rest of its electric grid and electrifying its economy. The Governor also highlights the joint announcement made earlier this year with the Biden Administration to open up the West Coast to offshore wind development—setting a target of bringing at least 4.6 GW of offshore wind energy to California’s grid, enough to power 1.6 million American homes. During American Clean Power Week, the Governor said he encouraged “all Californians to learn more about how our ambitious clean energy goals have cut emissions, created jobs and kept our state at the forefront of energy innovation and development.”
