Vestas joins corporate group committed to sourcing 100% renewable electricity

As the world’s leading provider of renewable energy solutions, Vestas is pleased to announce that it is joining RE100, a group of global companies dedicated to increasing demand for renewable energy.

Led by The Climate Group in partnership with CDP, RE100 is a global, collaborative initiative of influential businesses committed to using 100 per cent renewable electricity in order to accelerate the transformation of the global energy market and aid the transition toward a net-zero emissions economy.

Joining RE100 underlines Vestas’ commitment to a future powered by renewable energy. In addition to designing, manufacturing and managing products and solutions that generate clean energy and mitigate the impact of climate change, Vestas is also committed to reducing the environmental impact of its own operations. Vestas’ is joining RE100 as a company that already gets 100 per cent of its electricity supply from renewable energy. As Vestas’ operations and electricity consumption grows, its commitment is to stay at this level by expanding its supply of renewable electricity.

Vestas has four decades of experience and expertise in shaping and supporting markets for wind energy, and is keen to work in partnership with RE100 and its members to influence the global conversation on how to create supportive policies and frameworks for renewable energy.

Working with RE100 also provides Vestas an opportunity to more specifically support the company’s thought leadership, engagement and advocacy efforts to develop a policy framework for PPAs that enable more renewables in the energy mix and setting more ambitious targets for renewable energy.

Vestas is already using 100 per cent renewable electricity across its own operations to create wind power infrastructure,” says Sam Kimmins, Head of RE100, The Climate Group. “Now the company is furthering that leadership by joining RE100, and calling for important policy changes that will enable more companies to plug into renewables too.”

“The private sector is increasingly committed to meeting the challenges of climate change through the use of renewable energy, and so is Vestas,” says Morten Dyrholm, Vestas Group Senior Vice President of Marketing, Communications and Public Affairs. “RE100 underlines our joint efforts to make renewable energy an easy choice for companies, because it’s the right thing to do for the planet, and because it makes economic sense.”
