Happy Global Wind Day!

Today, marks the ninth edition of Global Wind Day, a movement created to bring individuals, communities and organisations together to celebrate wind energy and the positive difference it can make in the world.

In 2015, wind power alone met 42% of electricity demand in Denmark, 20% in Spain, 13% in Germany and 11% in the UK. These figures show that we are now at a level where wind integration can be the backbone of electricity systems in advanced economies.

With wind energy it is possible to have both ambitious green policies with a high proportion of renewable energy and, still have a high security of supply and competitive prices on electricity. We know wind energy is reliable, clean and affordable and this message must be communicated.

We see more companies turning to clean, reliable and cost-effective wind energy to power their businesses. Google, BMW and Henieken, among others, are now investing significantly in wind.

Wind power generates wealth and local employment, in Europe alone the sector represents over 250,000 jobs and generates 67 billion in annual turnover.

Global Wind Day is the day when you can visit wind farms, meet experts, attend events, take actions to support wind energy and find out everything you want to know about wind energy. From wind turbine tours and talks in Ireland, a football tournament in Greece and a sustainable music concert in Italy, there are numerous ways to get involved.

Join them today by seeing what events are happening near you.

To celebrate Global Wind Day, WindEurope is offering 20% off all conference delegate tickets to WindEurope Summit 2016. Make the most of this limited offer and register by 17 June.
