CSIRO’s next-gen printed flexible photovoltaic solar cells launched into space

Australian-made flexible solar cells will orbit the Earth in a world-first test to evaluate them as a reliable energy source for future space endeavours. State-of-the-art printed flexible solar cell technology developed by Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO, was successfully launched into space today aboard Australia’s largest private satellite, Optimus-1, on Space X’s Transporter-10 mission.  CSIRO … Continue reading CSIRO’s next-gen printed flexible photovoltaic solar cells launched into space

Solar power and on-shore wind energy provide cheapest electricity and nuclear most expensive

Estimates show small modular nuclear reactors would provide most expensive power and will not be available until 2030.Electricity generated by solar and on-shore wind is the cheapest in Australia, even after the significant expense of integrating them into the power grid is factored in, according to new analysis from the CSIRO. Estimates of costs to … Continue reading Solar power and on-shore wind energy provide cheapest electricity and nuclear most expensive

CSIRO sells concentrated solar power technology to China

Australia’s solar heliostat technology will be used for concentrating solar thermal (CST) electricity generation in China. In continued emphasis on mitigation and adaptation, CSIRO has partnered with Chinese company Thermal Focus, following China’s announcement to produce 1.4 GW of CST by 2018, and 5 GW by 2020. This would double the world’s installed CST plants.   … Continue reading CSIRO sells concentrated solar power technology to China
