ACP Applauds Final Sale Notice for Gulf of Mexico Offshore Wind Lease

The American Clean Power Association (ACP) released the following statement from Josh Kaplowitz, Vice President for Offshore Wind, in response to the Bureau of Offshore Energy Management’s (BOEM) decision to issue a Final Sale Notice for the first ever offshore wind lease in the Gulf of Mexico and President Biden’s speech in Philadelphia today hailing America’s offshore wind industry and the union jobs it will create.

“ACP applauds BOEM’s historic issuance of a Final Sale Notice for the first ever offshore wind lease in the Gulf of Mexico. The region is eager to get involved in the offshore wind game, as evidenced by Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards’ ambitious goal of deploying 5 GW of offshore wind by 2035. The Gulf presents a unique opportunity for offshore wind development, which can harness the offshore oil and gas supply chain and expert workforce that has developed in Texas and Louisiana over the past century and build on the region’s important energy-producing legacy.

“And as President Biden made clear today during his trip to visit the Acadia vessel in the Philadelphia shipyard, America’s historic investment in clean power is bringing manufacturing home. ACP is encouraged by this Administration’s continued prioritization of American renewable energy, and its understanding of the extensive benefits offshore wind development will create for our economy and environment.”
