Vestas’ EPC and repowering expertise secures turnkey solution that will triple wind farm capacity

Vestas has received a firm and unconditional 21 MW order from Energieprojekte Eichsfeld for repowering of the Reinholterode wind farm in Central Germany.

With this project, Vestas gets a new customer and the opportunity to repower wind turbines from a competitor. The wind park currently consists of four 1.5 MW turbines, which will be replaced by six V126-3.45 MW that triples the installed capacity, while increasing annual energy production even more due to more efficient turbines.

To ensure the most economic and sustainable solution for the Reinholterode project, Vestas provides a full engineering procurement and construction (EPC) solution leveraging Vestas’ extensive project management experience and deep product knowledge along with a customised turnkey solution for Energieprojekte Eichsfeld, including decommissioning of the existing turbines.

“We selected Vestas as the supplier of choice as they are able to support us not only in supplying the wind turbines, but to take on work along the entire repowering project, including project planning, civil and electrical infrastructure as well the decomissioning of the repowered turbines. As a small, private developer, it was extremely important to us to be in safe and competent hands for the entire duration of the project execution“, states Dr. Gerhard Ropeter, Managing Director of Energieprojekte Eichsfeld.

“In cooperation with Energieprojekte Eichsfeld, we have found the perfect solution for their project. Vestas is happy to provide our extensive project and product expertise while at the same time ensuring operational excellence”, says Nils de Baar, President of Vestas Central Europe. “Complexity and cost are reduced to a minimum, because providing the complete infrastructure enables the synchronisation of all the necessary steps for the smooth and quick installation of the wind turbines”.

The order also includes supply and commissioning of the wind turbines and a full-scope service agreement (AOM 5000) for 20 years. The service agreement also includes the VestasOnline® Compact SCADA solution. Wind turbine delivery and commissioning are planned for summer 2018.
