Elecnor secures the USD 89 million contract for a new wind farm in the Dominican Republic

Elecnor has been awarded the USD 89.1 million turnkey contract for the Larimar II wind farm in the Dominican Republic. The customer is the Empresa Generadora de Electricidad Haina (EGE Haina) company and the technology partner for the contract is the Danish firm Vestas.

Elecnor will be responsible for the engineering, supply, construction and start-up of the new wind farm, which is slated to come on stream in November 2019. The facility, located in the town of Enriquillo in Barahona province, will have a power capacity of 48.3 MW delivered by 14 turbines, each with a nominal capacity of 3.45 MW.

Elecnor is a key player in the Dominican Republic’s power transmission system and has a 400-strong team in the country, where it has been active since 1985. This new project, along with the Quisqueya Solar solar PV plant already in operation and which was also built by Elecnor, further cement the company’s status as a major player in renewable energy in the country.
