GM turns to wind power

Suburbans, Tahoes, Escalades: if they’re made in GM’s Arlington factory, soon they’ll have been built using wind energy.

GM recently signed a power purchase agreement with EDP Renewables North America to power the facility, which produces 1,200 cars and trucks every day. The company has bought enough wind generated electricity to build 125,000 trucks every year.

The deal will be a big carbon saver for GM, avoiding emissions from the equivalent of over 110 million gallons of gasoline.

With similar agreements in Mexico set to be finalized next year, GM is recognizing going green can save green.
