Nordex supplying 45.6 MW to Michigan wind farm

Nordex USA, Inc. will be supplying 19 wind turbines to Exelon Wind, LLC for the next phase of the Beebe Community Wind Project in Gratiot County, Michigan. The first phase, which was completed in December 2012, features 34 of Nordex’ N117/2400 turbines and was the first major project worldwide to use the machines, specifically designed for light wind conditions. Today more than 260 turbines of this type are installed or currently under construction.

The 2.4 MW wind turbines, on 91 meter towers, will be located near Ithaca, Michigan, about 45 miles north of the state capital of Lansing. The electricity generated by the project, sufficient to power approximately 14,000 homes, will be supplied to load in Michigan.

Ralf Sigrist, President & CEO of Nordex USA, Inc. commented, “It is always gratifying to be awarded repeat business from a valued customer such as Exelon Wind. It’s especially rewarding for us to have our respected N117/2400 deployed in a location so well-suited to benefit from its increased yields.”

Turbine deliveries are expected to begin in May 2014. Nordex will be responsible for delivery, commissioning and testing of the turbines and will provide ongoing maintenance under a 20-year Premium Service contract. Project completion and commercial operation are planned for late 2014.

Beebe Community Wind Farm is the first project that Nordex USA developed, in a joint venture with the local developer who initiated the project. Since 2009, Nordex USA has installed 646.6 MW of its multi-megawatt turbines in locations across the country including Pennsylvania, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Idaho, Colorado and Texas.

As one of the technological leaders in multi-megawatt wind power systems, Nordex is benefiting from the trend in favor of large-scale turbines. The product range of Generation Gamma comprises the N90/2500, N100/2500, and N117/2400, which is one of the most efficient wind turbines for onshore applications.

To date, Nordex has produced and installed over 2,400 multi-megawatt. This experience with multi-megawatt turbines gives Nordex a decisive lead over most of its competitors. Nordex has installed a total of around 5,500 turbines with an aggregate capacity of more than 9,000 MW all around the world. With exports accounting for more than 85 percent of its business, Nordex SE plays a key role in international high-growth regions. The Company has offices and subsidiaries in 22 countries around the world with a total global headcount of over 2,500 employees.
