Downer GE Consortium Awarded Boco Rock Wind Farm Contract

When all stages are completed, the wind farm will consist of over 100 wind turbines on a site located 10 kilometres south west of Nimmitabel, in the New South Wales Snowy Mountains region.

Downer EDI Limited (Downer) announced it had been awarded a contract, with consortium partner GE Australia and New Zealand, for work on stage one of the Boco Rock Wind Farm Project by Boco Rock Wind Farm Pty Ltd. The total project is valued at approximately $350 million.

 

The Downer GE Consortium will deliver the full engineering, procurement and construction for stage one of the project. GE will supply and commission 58, 1.7MW and 9, 1.6MW wind turbine generators.

 

Downer’s scope of works includes:

 

  • construction of the 132kV transmission line and substation
  • balance of plant, civil and electrical infrastructure
  • logistics
  • erection of the wind turbine generators.

 

The Chief Executive Officer of Downer, Grant Fenn, said: “The Downer GE consortium looks forward to using its capabilities and expertise in the renewable energy sector to deliver stage one of the Boco Rock Wind Farm project.

 

“Other key wind farms that Downer has delivered successfully include the Collgar Wind Farm in Western Australia, Lake Bonney Wind Farm in South Australia, Waubra Wind Farm in Victoria and the Mt Mercer Wind Farm, also in Victoria, which is currently under construction.”

 

Construction of the Boco Rock Wind Farm will commence in the third quarter of 2013 and it is expected to commence delivering power from the fourth quarter of 2014.
