Marine energy can generate 87 GW of power in Brazil

Brazil’s power regulator Aneel said a 10-minute trial on a generator at Porto do Pecem in June produced enough energy to supply the plant’s auxiliary systems, the article said. The research is part of a joint venture between Aneel, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and utility Tractebel. The testing is expected to take two-and-a-half years.

The prototype is formed by two modules comprising of a floating device, pump and mechanical arm that captures energy in a hyperbaric chamber liked to a 50 kW turbine, according to the article.
