Wind energy in Angola: wind farm in Namibe

Angola’s energetic sector might gain soon a wind farm with the works for its establishment starting in 2012, in Tômbwa district, south-western Namibe province. This was announced Friday in Luanda by the minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges.

The Government official said the project is a challenge for the country’s energetic sector concerning its renewable energy development strategy.

According to the minister, the implementation of the project will enable the country to start a new era in the use of renewable energy resources and new solutions to the country’s electrification, mainly in rural areas.

He said that the sector intends to implement more projects related to renewable energies such as solar power, to provide for everybody as the country has a low electrification level, mainly in rural areas.

The year-end greetings ceremony was attended by the State secretary for Waters, Luís Filipe da Silva, CEOs of companies of the sector, national directors workers and guests.
