Siemens announced the start of sale for the new gearless SWT-6,0 wind turbines

Siemens announced the start of sale for the new gearless SWT-6,0 wind energy turbine. The wind turbine is directly driven and needs 50 per cent less components than plants with gear equipment, according to Siemens.

With this, the plant proves to be the lightest of its kind. The SWT-6,0 was developed for the offshore wind power business in particular and is supposed to contribute to lower the costs of infrastructure, installation and maintenance.

Rotor diameters of 120 and 154 meters are to be offered. Machines of the type SWT 6,0-120 are also to be employed on sites where height restrictions exclude the installation of 6 MW plants in general.
