Wind power Gamesa to Supply Wind Turbines to Western Wind Energy

UniSource Electric will buy the power produced by the project. This is Western Wind Energy’s second contract with Gamesa in recent times and its first contract in the US wind industry.

Gamesa will supply five G90-2.0 MW wind turbines that will be installed on 78-m towers. The company will supervise the wind turbines deployment, which is scheduled for April 2011.

The Section 1603 Program is partly financing the Arizona wind farm development. The program, a section of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA), which was passed in February 2009, offers voluntary cash payment for developers with 30% production tax credit (PTC) and investment tax credit (ITC).

The firm expects the US market would account for 22% of its global sales of wind turbine generators. It expects an average annual growth of up to 15% in the US wind market from 2009 to 2013.
