Endesa and Bergé Automoción sign agreement to ramp up electric vehicles in Spain

Endesa will install and supply charging stations at the facilities of Bergé Automoción, the largest private automobile distributor on the Iberian Peninsular and in Latin America, as well as on the premises of companies commercially related to this company.

Bergé Automoción will supply electric vehicles for the various pilot projects Endesa is conducting in this field. During the first phase, vehicles manufactured among others by BYD, which is represented in Spain by Bergé, will be incorporated into the SmartCity project.

Endesa and Bergé Automoción have signed a collaborative agreement to work together to ramp up electric vehicle use in Spain.

Endesa will collaborate by supplying electricity and installing points where electric vehicles can be charged, and will also commercialise other energy products at the facilities of Bergé Automoción and companies commercially related to this company. The agreement also establishes the possibility of offering this service in the future to vehicle users of brands commercialised by Bergé Automoción.

In turn, Bergé Automoción will contribute its experience in automobile distribution and the logistical operations associated with fleet management, and will also supply the vehicles of the manufacturers it represents for the various pilot projects Endesa is conducting around Spain.

The first initiative stemming from this agreement involves Endesa receiving electric vehicles supplied among others by the manufacturer BYD, which is represented by Bergé Automoción, for use in its SmartCity project. This project, headed by Endesa and conducted in Malaga, involves the development of a new energy management model for cities to achieve energy savings of 20% and a reduction of more than 60,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum.

Endesa has pledged to develop a sustainable transport policy based on the electric vehicle as a key element in combating climate change, a cornerstone of its Sustainability Strategic Plan 2008-2012. To this end, it is involved in numerous national and European projects which aim, among other objectives, to standardise, define the business model for and raise awareness of electric vehicles in society. In Spain, the company participates in the Cenit Verde project and in implementing the government’s Electric Mobility plan (MOVELE), in addition to other projects involving the grid integration of electric vehicles such as SmartCity, DER-22@, REVE, and projects to perform research into and demonstrate electric vehicles in Europe, such as G4V and ELVIRE.

Bergé Automoción, the automotive division of Bergé y Cía, is currently the largest private automobile distributor on the Iberian Peninsular and in Latin America. It represents a total of 29 brands (between distribution and retail sale) and is active in Spain, Portugal, Poland, Chile, Argentina, Peru and Mexico.

Bergé Automoción commercialises various models of electric car in Spain, which cover a significant part of the existing demand and have been included in the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade’s MOVELE programme.
