BNDES provides fund for wind energy projects in Brazil

According to the bank, the total investment has reached 1.2 billion reais (0.7 billion dollars), and the 148 wind turbines to be installed in the wind farms will be provided by WPE, a subsidiary of the Argentine company Impsa.

The projects, with the total installed capacity of 222 megawatts (MW), are part of the Brazilian Growth Acceleration Program and were approved by the Program for Investment in Alternative Sources of Energy.

The projects will create 150 direct jobs during construction and another 50 during operation, and will generate more than 1,500 indirect jobs.

It is forecast that the last plant will start operating commercially by December 2010.
