EDF Energies Nouvelles is Commissioning the Castanet Wind Farm in France

The Castanet wind farm is located in the Hérault department. With 13.8 MW in installed capacity, it comprises six 2.3 MW turbines supplied by German manufacturer Enercon.

EDF Energies Nouvelles owns 11.5 MW of this facility. The remainder (2.3 MW) was sold in December 2008 as part of its Development and Sale of Structured Assets business.

The sixth project completed by EDF Energies Nouvelles in France since the beginning of the year, this wind farm strengthens the Group’s positions in its wind power home market. To date, EDF Energies Nouvelles has developed and built 442.6 MW in gross capacity in France, 112.2 MW of which has been sold to third parties.

Wind power is EDF Energies Nouvelles’ priority avenue of expansion. With wind farms in operation in Europe and the US, wind power currently accounts for around 90% of the Group’s total installed capacity. The 2002 acquisition of enXco, a leading wind energy player in the US, gave a considerable boost to our expansion in wind power.

Achievement of first solar projects: more than 20 MWp in capacity installed at 31 December 2008. The company has developed a portfolio of projects in France, Spain, Italy, Greece, the United States and Canada and exclusive alliances with local partners: Fotosolar in Spain, RETD in Greece and Photon Power Technologies in France.

Efforts to secure the supply of solar panels: contracts were signed with several international manufacturers giving it access to diverse technologies for ground-based and roof array plants.

Formation of EDF Energies Nouvelles Réparties: the new 50-50 joint venture with EDF is active in the generation of electricity and heat at the point of consumption and markets equipment (solar photovoltaic, solar thermal, heat pumps, wood) to individuals, professionals, businesses and local authorities.
