Wind power in Poland: New EDP Renewables wind farm starts up in Kuyavian-Pomeranian province

EDP Renewables, a leader in Poland’s renewable energy sector and the world’s fourth largest wind energy producer, recently held the opening ceremony for a new wind farm in the Polish town of Radziejów.

The facility has a total production capacity of 18 MW thanks to its 12 modern 1.5 MW AW-82 wind turbines, and spans the towns of Stary Radziejów and Stary Radziejów Wie?.

This latest project by EDP Renewables will help Poland meet the EU’s renewable energy targets, according to which 20 percent of all electricity is to be generated through renewable sources by 2020. The Radziejów wind farm will also reinforce the country’s energy security and help to reduce harmful emissions of CO2, NOx and dust.

This is EDP Renewables’ seventh wind farm in Poland, following the inauguration of facilities in Margonin (Greater Poland), Korsze (Warmia-Masuria province), Pawlowo (Greater Poland), and J?drzychowice, Zgorzelec (Lower Silesia), and I??a (Mazovia province). EDPR’s total installed capacity in Poland now stands at 392 MW.

João Paulo Costeira, CEO of EDP Renewables Europe, said: “Our company manages over 9 GW of installed capacity around the world. Poland is one of our most important markets, so we are delighted that this investment has been successfully implemented.”

As well as generating clean, green energy, the Radziejow wind farm will also contribute to an improvement in local energy and road infrastructure through the preparatory work for its construction and operation. The presence of this facility will also lead to an upturn in economic activity in the region and provide additional income for local authorities and landowners. EDP Renewables will also support the local community by participating in the organisation and backing of cultural, educational and sports initiatives.
