Wind energy in Italy: Nordex bags 17.5 MW wind farm contract

The Nordex Group has been awarded a contract for the construction of the “Manfredonia” wind farm.

The investor is the special purpose vehicle “Eolsiponto Srl”, owned by Capital Riesgo Global SA, a company of Banco Santander, and Alerion Clean Power.

The contract marks the first time that power producer Alerion has opted for Nordex turbines.

With an installed capacity of over 250 megawatts (MW), this company is one of the largest independent power producers and project developers in Italy.

Work on installing the seven N100/2500 turbines is to commence in spring 2014. The “Manfredonia” wind farm is located in Apulia close to the town of the same name on the Adriatic coast. The wind farm will have an installed capacity of 17.5 MW, sufficient to generate almost 40 GWh of clean energy a year, preventing the emission of some 40,000 tons of CO2.

“The contract is an encouraging sign for our subsidiary in Rome, showing that also under the new auction system in Italy Nordex is successful. What is more, I am pleased that we have been able to convince Alerion of the quality of our turbines,” says Lars Bondo Krogsgaard Board member of Nordex SE.
