Developed by Kronos Solar EDPR, this marks the initial step of EDPR’s plan to install close to 100 MWp in the country over the next few months.
EDP Renewables (EDPR), a leading developer of renewable energy worldwide, has taken another step in its commitment to speed up the European energy transition by starting operation of its first project in the Netherlands.
Situated in Berkelland, Gelderland, the project was developed through Kronos Solar EDPR, and has a capacity exceeding 12 MWp (9.4 MWac). This solar development is set to produce over 12 GWh of clean energy annually for the Dutch grid and its output will amount to the equivalent of the annual domestic electricity consumption of over 4,000 households in the region while averting more than 2,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually that would have resulted from generating the same energy through thermal sources.
This photovoltaic facility is the first to supply clean energy to Google under a long-term contract signed in June.
With the acquisition of Kronos Solar EDPR, EDP Renewables has penetrated new markets, including the Netherlands and Germany, establishing a presence in 13 European countries. Kronos Solar EDPR has a track record of successful projects and a significant pipeline in various development stages – recently the company brought online its first solar project in France, located in Neuilly-sur-Seine.
Having surpassed 5.7GW of installed renewable energy capacity in Europe, EDPR is dedicated to supporting the Netherlands’ energy transition objectives. The country aims to cut CO2 emissions by 55% and source 75% of its total electricity from renewables by 2030, including achieving 27 GW of installed solar energy.
