AWEA launches new campaign “Take Time to Take Care”

The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) has launched a new campaign “Take Time to Take Care” with wind turbine technician safety in mind.

“Safety training and awareness campaigns are top priorities for us,” said AWEA CEO Tom Kiernan. “We are pleased to announce AWEA’s 3rd annual October safety campaign ‘Take Time to Take Care.’ Focusing on soft tissue injury prevention, the campaign addresses the importance of proper stretching and body positioning for wind techs’ occupational health and safety.”

AWEA is committed to fostering a culture of safety for wind turbine service technicians, the fastest growing job in America according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Wind technicians are responsible for efficient and safe wind farm operations. Like any career requiring physical exertion, preventative measures are essential to preventing soft-tissue damage of muscles, ligaments and tendons.

The “Take Time to Take Care” campaign highlights materials that help wind technicians stay healthy and safe, including a training module, stretching poster and two webinars. By utilizing these tools, wind farm operators can train their teams on the importance of stretching, body positioning and fitness amid the rigors of climbing and maintaining wind turbines.

AWEA safety campaigns, including “Take Time to Take Care”, are created through the hard work and dedication of the AWEA Safety Campaign Subcommittee and the Environmental, Health, and Safety Committee. Together these committees help ensure wind workers are safe in their jobs while producing affordable, clean and reliable energy for American homes and businesses.
