Gamesa to expand blade production at Galicia

Galicia’s regional Councillor for the Economy, Employment and Industry, Francisco Conde, has visited Gamesa’s factory in As Somozas where the company makes the blades for the G114-2.0 MW and G114-2.5 MW turbines. This facility currently employs 183 people.

During the visit, Ricardo Chocarro, CEO for EMEA, confirmed Gamesa’s plans to add a third production line at the As Somozas complex. This new line will enable the gradual hire of around 100 people over the course of the year, underpinned by and evidencing the success of these models, for which the orderbook since launch has grown to 2,200 MW.

For his part, Francisco Conde underscored the fact that the company is a benchmark for wealth creation in the region in which it employs close to 300 people and works with over 260 suppliers which benefitted from orders worth €40 million in 2015.

At present, the factory is manufacturing the blades for two wind farm developments, one in Cyprus and one in Turkey.

Gamesa in Galicia

Gamesa’s presence in Galicia dates to 1995, since which time it has built a significant manufacturing presence in the region, having supplied over 45% of local installed wind power capacity.

In addition to the blade factory in As Somozas, the company has a gearbox repair facility in Sigüeiro and a sales office in Santiago de Compostela.
