Wind power: Senvion already installed 6,000 wind turbines

Senvion wind turbines for 62 megawatts wind farm with Fred. Olsen in UK

Senvion, one of the world’s biggest wind turbine manufacturers, has signed its first UK contract with Fred. Olsen Renewables Ltd., supplying 30 Senvion MM series turbines to the Brockloch Rig Wind Farm.

Brockloch Rig Wind Farm is located in the hills above Carsphairn Forest, some nine kilometres north of Carsphairn in Dumfries and Galloway. Senvion will be supplying 30 turbines in total: 21 Senvion MM82 and nine Senvion MM92. The wind farm will have a total rated output of 61.5 megawatts (MW) and will produce enough electricity to power more than 33,000 homes each year.

The first turbine installations at Brockloch Rig Wind Farm are scheduled for summer 2016.

Raymond Gilfedder, Managing Director of Senvion Northern Europe, said: “We are very proud to have signed our first wind turbine supply contract with Fred. Olsen in the UK. Brockloch is a flagship project for Senvion in the UK. The fact that such a capable and experienced developer as Fred. Olsen has put its trust in Senvion to deliver Brockloch is a huge testament to the team and the local capability we have developed over the last 13 years in our Edinburgh Headquarters and throughout the UK. I thank Fred. Olsen for putting its trust in us and look forward to repaying the faith by delivering a successful project.”

David Brunt, CEO, Fred. Olsen Renewables said: “We have been involved with Brockloch Rig Wind Farm from the start, through site selection, planning and construction, in line with our strategy to manage the full lifecycle. It is a key site in our UK portfolio which opens up a new geographical area for us and we are pleased that things are progressing well as we now move towards construction. This will be our first project with Senvion in the UK. They were selected following a competitive process and wee now look forward to working with the Senvion team in delivering this key project.”
