600 MW of Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) being developed in South Africa

Concentrated solar power (CSP) projects are advancing rapidly in South Africa, with government support for independent power producers (IPPs) and new interest from financiers and investors.

South Africa is seen by many analysts as one of the most important countries to develop renewable energy. Recently, 2 CSP projects were granted preferred bidder status under the last round of South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPP) and two more projects, of 100 MW each, start construction this year. Namibia too, is preparing its CSP roadmap to include to its energy portfolio.

“CSP is growing year by year in South Africa. International companies are opening offices in the country as they’ve realised the business potential of the market and that this will just keep growing in the next years” said Brandon Páramo, Project Manager at CSP Today.

With all these developments taking place, CSP Today has compiled the most important events and industry data into a timeline to get a perfect overview on the development of the CSP industry in South Africa.
