Construction completed on phase one of Borkum West II offshore wind farm in Germany

SgurrEnergy is advising Trianel Windfraftwerk Borkum (TWB) on the project, which is located 45km to the north of the German island of Borkum.

The company served as technical advisor, monitoring operations and providing monthly reports on progress and budget reviews.

SgurrEnergy will continue to advise TWB during the commissioning phase, which is planned to be completed in early 2015.

SgurrEnergy project manager Andrew Cole said: “SgurrEnergy has been involved in this landmark project for around five years and it’s fantastic to see it reach this construction milestone and take another successful step towards completion.”

Under the first phase, 40 wind turbines with 200MW output have been installed.

The wind farm, which will feature Areva M5000 wind turbines, is anticipated to generate 750GWh of electricity per year.

Upon completion, the wind farm will deliver eco-electricity for about 200,000 households in the region.

TWB managing director Manuel Eck said: “We have enjoyed working closely with SgurrEnergy’s team, who have been involved in the project as early as 2009, where they helped progress the development to financial close.

“More recently, SgurrEnergy’s construction monitoring services have been very important in supporting the Borkum West project through the construction phase and we will continue to work closely with them while bringing the wind farm into operation.”
