Brockloch Rig Wind comprises two planned wind farms – Windy Standard II and Windy Standard III – located in the hills above Carsphairn Forest, some 9km north of Carsphairn in Dumfries and Galloway. The first phase of the project was consented in 2007 with a planned installed capacity of up to 75 MW. Construction on Windy Standard II is due to commence in mid-2014 with pre-construction activities already underway. Windy Standard III is a proposed development of up to 43.5 MW.
David Brunt, CEO at Fred. Olsen Renewables commented: “The acquisition of the remaining share of this project is important for us, further building our UK portfolio and demonstrating our commitment to deliver renewable energy while actively co-operating with key stakeholders and local communities. When operational, Phase 1 of Brockloch Rig will bring Fred. Olsen Renewables’ portfolio to just over 487 MW of operational wind farms in the UK.”
Fred. Olsen Renewables currently has an onshore wind portfolio of over 428 MW in operation, of which 357 MW is in Scotland equivalent to 8% of the country’s total onshore installed wind capacity or 5% of the UK’s total onshore installed wind capacity. A further 112 MW of onshore wind plant, including Brockloch Rig, is either under construction or due to shortly enter construction in the UK.
FOR’s overall strategy is to participate in projects from an early stage. The company is involved in site selection, planning and construction and aims to operate the projects over their lifetime. The approach is based on a successfully demonstrated full lifecycle principle.
Fred. Olsen Renewables (FOR) has been developing and operating wind farms since the mid 1990’s. Its operational portfolio comprises Rothes (51 MW), Rothes II (45 MW), Paul’s Hill (64 MW), Crystal Rig I (62.5 MW), Crystal Rig II (138 MW) and Lista (71 MW) giving a generating capacity of 428 MW. Mid Hill (75 MW) is under construction. FOR also has wind farm developments onshore in Scandinavia with 561 MW of consented sites and a further 1GW offshore in Irish Waters. FOR is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bonheur ASA and Ganger Rolf ASA, both listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange, with FOR being responsible for the development and long term ownership of renewable energy generation activities.
