Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman will speak at state wind energy conference in Kearney next month

This year’s wind energy conference next month will focus on the potential for building more wind farms in Nebraska.

The sixth-annual wind power conference will be held in Lincoln on Nov. 13-15.

The event will feature presentations from Gov. Dave Heineman, several state senators and top executives from the state’s biggest utilities.

Organizer Dan McGuire says Nebraska is the only state that is entirely served by public power, and he says those utilities have been supportive of wind power.

But environmental groups have been critical of the pace of wind power development in the state.

Nebraska ranks as the fourth-best wind-producing state in the nation but 25th in the amount it could produce with the equipment currently has installed.
