China to assist in Sri Lanka’s wind energy generation

China will assist Sri Lanka to launch a wind power generation project and also make the Colombo Harbour Asia’s commerce hub.  Chinese Ambassador in Sri Lanka  Wu Jiang hao said this when he met Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa at the ministry office on Monday July 8.

Ambassador Wu Jiangho also told the Minister that a top level team of investors from China is scheduled to visit this country to explore the possibility of investing in the development of infrastructure facilities and the provision of agricultural implements among other areas.
Plans will be drawn up to establish wind power generation systems in rural areas in the vicinity of paddy fields.  Under this plan multipurpose wind power generation towers will be built to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during peak hours. This system would also help to reduce maintenance costs of transmitters.
Minister Rajapaksa told the Chinese Ambassador that many opportunities are available in Sri Lanka for investment and said that an increasing number of women are employed today in different fields including garment, fashion and gem and jewellery industries.
