Nebraska Wind Farm Gets Key Approval

The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners has approved a permit application for a wind farm that will straddle the county line with Gage County in southeast Nebraska.

The board OK’d the Steele Flats Wind Project on Tuesday.

The Gage County Planning Commission has recommended that the county board also approve the $138 million wind farm.

Documents filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission say the wind farm would generate nearly 74 megawatts of electricity. It’s being developed by NextEra Energy Resources, of Juno Beach, Fla.

The wind farm says 32 of the wind turbines will be in Jefferson County, 12 in Gage County.
