Chile’s Talinay wind farm may start supplies next week

Chile’s Talinay Oriente wind farm of 90 MW has been completed despite some delays and could start supplies next week, Daniel Munzenmayer, manager of Chilean firm Haciendas Talinay, told local daily Estrategia.

Talinay is a 500 MW wind power project approved by the environmental authorities in 2009. Italy’s Enel Green Power (BIT:EGPW) has recently acquired the first 90 MW portion of the project from Vestas Wind Systems (CPH:VWS).

Haciendas Talinay, which has a real estate, touristic and agricultural undertaking in Coquimbo region including the wind farm, wants to install an additional 160 MW by 2016.

The final 250 MW and a nearby wind project of 500 MW could be developed after 2017 depending on an upgrade of the existing infrastructure from 220 kV to 500 kV, according to Munzenmayer.
