Hyundai develops permanent magnet synchronous generator or offshore wind turbines

Hyundai Heavy Industries, or HHI, a shipbuilder and a green energy company, has developed 5.85MW permanent magnet synchronous generator, or PMSG, for offshore wind turbines.

The PMSG is the main equipment of wind turbine for converting wind energy to electricity.

With improved durability and minimized use of expendables, product life of the generator is extended from 20 to 25 years, the company said. Hyundai Heavy has also announced that it plans to commercialize the generator by 2014 after finalizing field tests.
