DTE Energy completes wind energy project in Huron, Sanilac counties

DTE Energy Co. says a new wind turbine development is up and running in Huron and Sanilac counties and it’s working on another area project.

The Detroit-based utility on Friday announced the completion of the Thumb Wind Park. The 69 wind turbines are located on about 15,000 acres in Bloomfield, McKinley and Sigel townships in Huron County and Minden and Delaware townships in Sanilac County.

The development is about 100 miles north of Detroit. It generates enough energy to power about 25,000 homes.

DTE Energy says it plans to build its next wind turbine development in Huron County by the end of 2013. The Echo Wind Park is planned to include up to 70 wind turbines on nearly 16,000 acres of land. That project is in Oliver and Chandler townships.
