Wind energy in Canada: Vestas secures 533 MW of service contract renewals

Vestas has secured 10-year service agreements from International Power Canada covering 276 wind turbines at eight power plants in Canada.

The service agreements, totalling 533 MW, include 335 MW for existing wind power plants in New Brunswick, Ontario and Prince Edward Island. It also encompasses 198 MW for two projects in Ontario that will be finished in 2013.

As a leader in service and maintenance in Canada, we are honoured to continue our partnership with International Power Canada,” said Martha Wyrsch, President of Vestas-Canadian Wind Technology, Inc. “International Power Canada is a recognized innovator and driver in the Canadian wind market, and we are very proud to work with them.

The service contracts ensure long-term jobs for about 40 full-time Vestas employees in Canada who provide maintenance for these turbines.

Vestas has secured 10-year service agreements from International Power Canada covering 276 wind turbines at eight power plants in Canada.
Under the agreements, Vestas will provide a full range of services to maximise the energy production of the turbines. The contracts include Vestas’ Active Output Management (AOM) 4000 service option, which consists of guaranteed availability, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, and replacement of major components and spare parts. It also includes a surveillance system called VestasOnline®, allowing Vestas to monitor and remotely control the turbines.

Vestas has received service contract renewals at eight Canadian wind power plants for a total capacity of 533 MW.

By the end of 2012, Vestas will have completed four new wind power plants in Canada totalling 308 MW. Six additional Canadian projects using Vestas turbines, a combined 419 MW, will be constructed in 2013.
