Geothermal energy plant in Nevada begins operations

Ormat Technologies Inc. (NYSE: ORA) said that its 30 MW McGinness Hills geothermal energy plant in Lander County, Nev. began commercial operations on July 26.

The plant has been generating electricity since June 15 and NV Energy (NYSE: NVE) is purchasing the output under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

The geothermal power plant features the Ormat Energy Converter, a power generation unit that converts low-, medium- and high-temperature heat into electrical energy.

NV Energy also approved the January 11 commercial operation date for the Tuscarora geothermal power plant in Elko County, Nev.
