Siemens to provide wind turbines for 1,800 MW wind power projects in UK

Dong Energy has selected Siemens to provide wind turbines for 1,800MW offshore wind energy planned to be built off the British coast.

Under the signed framework agreement, Siemens will provide SWT-6.0-154 type 300 wind turbines each with a generating capacity of 6MW.
Each 6MW turbine can produce electricity to light up 6,000 European households.

DONG Energy CEO Carsten Krogsgaard Thomsen said the agreement will enable DONG Energy to install a significantly larger and more efficient wind turbine from 2014 compared to what we know today

“The agreement is a key element of DONG Energy’s objective to significantly expand offshore wind and strengthen our position as market leader within offshore wind,” Thomsen added.

“For DONG Energy, this is an important step towards further industrialization and will contribute to the enhanced competitiveness of offshore wind.”

Siemens Energy Sector CEO and Siemens AG board member Michael Suess said long-term customer DONG Energy has chosen the latest generation of our wind turbines. “Offshore wind conditions are strong and stable enabling an energy yield which can be about 40 percent higher than onshore,” Suess added. “Together we are working to further reduce the levelized costs for this environmentally-friendly form of power generation.” The projects will be installed in a span of three years between 2014 and 2017.
