AMSC to supply electrical control systems for wind turbines

AMSC (Nasdaq: AMSC), a global solutions provider serving wind energy and grid leaders, announced that Inox Wind Limited, part of India’s Inox Group, placed a follow-on order for 50 of AMSC’s electrical control systems (ECS) for Inox’s 2 MW wind turbines.

AMSC expects to ship all of these wind power systems to Inox in 2012. This is the fourth volume order that AMSC has received from Inox in the past two years. The ECS are being used in Inox’s 2 MW doubly-fed induction turbines, which were designed by and licensed from AMSC in 2009.

AMSC’s ECS are an integrated, high-performance suite of power electronics systems that include the wind turbine power converter cabinet, internal power supply and various controls. Together, these systems serve as the "brains" of the wind turbine and help to control power flows, regulate voltage, monitor system performance, control the pitch of wind turbine blades and the yaw of the wind turbines to maximize efficiency.
