Wind power in Vietnam: 1st wind farm in central province

Vietnam’s first wind farm has been put into operation in central Binh Thuan province with an initial power output of 30 MW, local authorities said on Thursday.

Funded by the Vietnam Renewable Energies JSC and with a capital of 2 trillion VND (959,000 U.S. dollars), the wind farm has a total of 80 wind turbines, 20 of which now in operation can produce 30 MW of electricity.

Binh Thuan, some 1,150 km south of the Vietnamese capital Hanoi, has a huge potential for developing wind energy. To date, the local authorities have granted licenses to 13 investors to build 16 additional wind power mills with a combined capacity of 1,240 MW.
