Narayanasamy pitches for solar energy

Government was determined to step up solar power generation in the country as it was clean, he said. Researchers should focus on bringing down the cost of photovoltaic cells, Narayanasamy said, participating in the valedictory of the international workshop and conference on renewable energy and climate change-exploring opportunities for sustainable development-2012 on Saturday.

Referring to the Madurai Kamraj University, he said MKU was well-known even in old times for its correspondence courses and Centre would extend whatever support it needed.

There seemed to be some discrepancies in allocation of funds for universities even though some universities like MKU Kamaraj university were doing extremely well,he said.

"There has been a request for support and the Centre will give maximum financial support for the university’s research projects," he said.

He inaugurated the solar power plant that would be used by the campus. The Rs. 2 core worth solar power plant at MKU had eight solar panels of 125 watt each and it would support the electricity needs of one building.
