Greek wind power production capacity rises by 23% 2011

Wind energy in Greece: 1,626.5 megawatts in 2011. Installed wind power capacity rose to 1,626.5 megawatts in 2011 from 1,320.4 megawatts in 2010. Vestas accounted for 49 percent of wind turbines installed in Greece in 2011.

Wind turbines capacity in Greece rose by 23.18 percent last year, according to data released by the Hellenic Wind Energy Association.

Installed wind power capacity rose to 1,626.5 megawatts in 2011 from 1,320.4 megawatts in 2010.

French power giant EdF SA was the biggest producer of wind energy in Greece last year, accounting for 272.03 megawatts or almost 17 percent of total production, according to the statement.

Spanish firm Iberdrola Renovables SA was the second-largest producer with 250.68 megawatts and Greece’s Terna Energy SA was third with 241.52 megawatts. Vestas Wind Systems A/S accounted for 49 percent of wind turbines installed in Greece in 2011.
