Gamesa opens 102 MW wind farm in Honduras

A new 102MWwind farm, built jointly by Gamesa and Iberdrola Engineering, has been opened in Honduras. The wind power facility, said to the largest wind farm in Central America, is expected to boost the nation’s installed capacity by 7%.

The wind power farm equipped with 51 of Gamesa’s G87-2.0 MW wind turbines holds a two-year maintenance service deal. Power generated will be sold to Empresa Nacional de Energía Eléctrica for a period of 20 years.

Globeleq Mesoamerica Energy is the owner of the site operating through its local subsidiary Energía Eólica de Honduras. The wind energy project received funds from the Export-Import Bank of the US and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration.
