Wind energy in Brazil: authorized 133 wind farm projects in Bahia

Bahia wants to get 4,000 MW of wind power in the next auction, scheduled for March. Last week, the government authorized 133 wind farm projects for the implementation of 3,200 MW of installed capacity. The new licenses, along with projects already underway, will reach 4,000 MW.

Calls Location Licenses (LL), published in the Gazette, refer to the environmental impact analysis. After obtaining the permits, the wind power companies can participate in the power auction A-3, which performed the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL).

Today, Bahia has 57 wind power projects underway in the state. The wind farm projects involve an investment of 6,5 billion reais and the creation of between 400 and 600 jobs during construction. When wind farms are operating, 1,418 MW will be added to the network.

It is expected that in September 2012 has 18 wind farms in operation. Wind farms were engaged in auctions during the years 2009, 2010 and 2011.
