Fuhrländer: wind energy in Tarnow

The 2.05 MW wind turbine generator developed and designed by W2E operates with a rotor diameter of 93.2 m and a hub height of 100 m. It was connected to the mains supply at the 30th November 2011 and set to the automatic mode.

The operating test has started. W2E engineers monitor the operation and conduct several tests. The wind turbine was manufactured by Fuhrländer AG and erected in Tarnow, close to the city of Güstrow. "Due to our own wind turbine generator, we are able to test sufficiently new implemented technology under real conditions. Additionally we can monitor and analyse processes directly on-site and in real-time. Along with essential inventions in the control system, proven technology i.e. the Larus Compact drive train concept are installed," explains Dr. Torsten Schütt, Regional Manager for Electrical Engineering.

W2E optimises with the wind turbine a new yaw- and control system. The control system is based on components of the Bachmann-SPS-M1 system and developed by W2E.

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania additional wind turbines developed by W2E shall be erected. These prototypes are developed for wind energy turbines of 3 MW class. They operate with an extra large rotor diameter of 120 m and are equipped with the new compact drive train technology, called "Hybrid-Drive", invented by Winergy. The erection of the turbine is already in the approval process.

The development is supported by the Chair for Technical Mechanics/Dynamics, University of Rostock, and the entire project is sponsored by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Reactor Safety – based on a resolution of the German Bundestag.
