Vestas returns to Hainan province with a new wind energy order

The wind turbines will be installed at Gaopai wind farm in Dongfang County, Hainan province. With this new wind power order, Vestas confirms its foothold on the island province of Hainan, which as of 30 June 2011 has a total installed base of approx 240 MW out of which 20 per cent is supplied by Vestas.

Vestas entered China back in 1986 and was recognized by the Chinese customers to have some of the most advanced and reliable wind power equipment in the world. With a total of four V15-55 kW turbines installed in China, three in Shandong Province and one on Hainan Island, Vestas spearheaded the development of the modern wind energy industry in the country which is the largest market in the world today, 25 years later. As of 30 June 2011, Vestas has delivered at total of 2,747 turbines to China.

Hainan is located in the geographical belt along China’s south eastern coastline which is characterized by low average wind speed with occasional extreme winds. This means that a solution that can harvest the most energy out of the low wind and at the same time withstand the strong forces of the high wind was needed to ensure a reliable performance for the customer.

Jens Tommerup, President of Vestas China says, “We are proud to have made Hainan one of the pioneering provinces of China’s wind power industry in 1986. Today, 25 years later, after having proved the designed life cycle of our first Vestas turbines in China, we are once again continuing our endeavors here in Hainan Province. We are very pleased that our products and solution have earned the recognition of our customers, which is the best encouragement for Vestas’ continuous commitment in China.”

The contract includes supply, installation supervision and commissioning of the wind turbines, a VestasOnline® Business SCADA solution and a two-year service and maintenance agreement. The delivery is scheduled to take place by the end of December 2011.
