University of Minnesota to open wind power research site

The University of Minnesota is flipping the switch on a new wind turbines research station this week at the university’s UMore Park property in Rosemount. The research wind farm station includes a 420-foot-tall wind turbine and a 426-foot-tall meteorological research tower. The wind power facility will host research into wind energy and train workers for the industry.

The facility is the product of $7.9-million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to the University of Minnesota and its private-sector partners. It was one of three such partnerships to receive a grant in 2009.
