Solar Energy in Ethiopia

The forum brought together interested parties to talk about the opportunities in solar energy production in Ethiopia, the ambassador added. In a related development in mid August, representatives of General Electric, an American multinational corporation, had visited Ethiopia to holding talks with the Ethiopian Electric and Power Corporation (EEPCo) on renewable energy investment projects in Ethiopia.

According to Mekuria Lemma, Corporate Planning Head of EEPCo, General Electric is expected to invest in solar and wind energy projects. The energy and mining sectors in Ethiopia have been attracting several American companies, including Blue Diamond, a new American energy company, which is planning to launch wind energy projects here, Mekuria said. General Electric operates in more than 100 countries around the world and employs more than 300,000 people worldwide.
