GS Yuasa Lithium Power Ships

GS Yuasa Lithium Power, Inc. (GYLP) announced today that it has shipped the batteries that will be used by Orbital Sciences Corporation’s Cygnus(TM) vehicle on its maiden Commercial Resupply Services (CRS) mission to the International Space Station. GYLP has already delivered a set of flight batteries in support of the Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS) vehicle development and demonstration program. The batteries use GS Yuasa’s space qualified LSE190 lithium ion cells and were assembled by GYLP at its Roswell facility.

"GYLP delivered this shipset of batteries in support of Orbital’s Orb-1 mission to the International Space Station ahead of the vehicle need date," commented Bill Moll, president of GYLP. "Our capability to support challenging production schedules is key to meeting our customer’s expectations. We are excited to be a part of Orbital’s program to develop commercial space vehicles, and we will continue to maintain GS Yuasa’s reputation for technological excellence."

GYLP’s CRS battery program manager Rosanne Larkins explained that, "this delivery followed on the heels of a successful completion of the Commercial Orbital Transportation System (COTS) battery qualification and delivery of the COTS shipset that will fly on the cargo resupply demonstration mission. The GYLP team successfully hit this delivery target in a very aggressive program schedule. This has allowed GS Yuasa to not only demonstrate its manufacturing ability but the ability to meet overall customer needs."
