Vestas receives wind farm order for 47 MW in India

Vestas has received its first large scale V100 project order in India from an existing customer. The order for 26 units of the V100-1.8 MW wind turbine is for the Vandiya Power Wind Farm project in the state of Gujarat, India. The order for the 46.8 MW wind farm is placed by Powerica Limited which has wind farms that currently employ Vestas V82-1.65 MW wind turbines in Tamilnadu and Gujarat.

Powerica is the largest diesel generator set manufacturer in India involved in the business of assembly, sales and service of diesel/gas power plants for all sectors of the economy for the last 30 years. The total installed capacity of Powerica with Vestas will be about 100 MW once the turbines under this contract are commissioned.

The contract comprises the supply and commissioning the turbines, a VestasOnline® Business SCADA system and a 10-year service and maintenance agreement. Delivery of the turbines is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2011.

“We are highly appreciative that Powerica has chosen Vestas as their wind energy solution provider to help realise Powerica’s renewable energy ambitions,” says Vestas Asia Pacific President Mr Sean Sutton and continues: “This order is recognition of Vestas’ long-standing track record for experience, innovation and competitive strength in the Indian wind energy market.”

Mr Rajiv Wahi, Executive Chairman of Vestas India adds, “Vestas India is delighted to receive this repeat order from Powerica and we look forward to a continuing and mutually beneficial association. We are committed to play a key role in developing the Indian wind energy sector and will continue to provide innovative products like the V100-1.8 MW turbine that is designed for high productivity from low wind sites, commonly found in India.”

"We are the best in our business and hence it is natural for us to be associated with the best in the wind industry, too. Vestas is a good partner to work with and the experience is more than excellent, and this association will be well taken forward by my Son Rajat Oberoi," says Powerica Chairman, Mr Naresh Oberoi.

The V100-1.8 MW wind turbine is designed for high energy production from low wind sites like those in India, with a greater rotor diameter that enables maximum output at low wind speeds. Designed, tested and manufactured for quality, the V100-1.8 MW makes even the lowest wind speed sites commercially viable. When completed, the Vandiya wind power plant will save the environment from almost 130,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, compared to the Indian electricity generation mix.
