Vestas signs new wind power order for 60 MW in Brazil

Vestas has signed an order for a total capacity of 60 MW wind farm for projects in Brazil comprising 30 wind turbines of the V100-2.0 MW for the Renascenca V and Eurus II wind power plants to be located in the Rio Grande do Norte region, one of the areas with the highest wind resources in Brazil.

The wind energy order has been placed by Atlantic Energias Renováveis S.A., a holding consortium of companies investing in renewable energy projects, including wind, in Brazil. These include: Adelanta Corporación, Cupa Renovables, Pattac Empreendimentos e Particpações and Servinoga. These are the first wind power projects that Atlantic Energias Renováveis will execute in Brazil.

The contract includes supply, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines, a VestasOnline® Business SCADA system and a five year service and maintenance agreement with the Active Output Management package AOM 5000. The AOM 5000 is Vestas’ new service product optimizing wind power plant output and minimizing customer risk. Delivery of the turbines is expected to start in Q4 2012 and the projects are expected to be completed in Q3 2013.

Marcelo Anton Pegler Hutschinski, Director, sales region Brazil, affirms: “We are glad to be chosen as the technology and service supplier for the very first project that Atlantic Energias Renováveis undertakes in Brazil, a market which is increasingly focusing on the development of wind energy. We look forward to working together with them and contributing to making wind power on a par with other energy sources in the country.”

Juan Araluce, President, Vestas Mediterranean, concludes: “Brazil is an interesting and important wind energy market, which has realized the benefits that wind power can bring to the country in terms of diversifying its energy mix and complementing its existing energy sources to promote economic development and growth in the country. At Vestas we are looking forward to supporting Brazil in the achievement of their energy and development objectives.”

The wind farm plants of this order will produce approx 315 GWh per year, which corresponds to an annual emission saving of almost 23,000 tons of CO2 compared with average Brazilian electricity. Furthermore, it will provide enough electricity to cover the annual residential electricity consumption of almost 632,785 people in Brazil.
