Mexico to analyze its wind energy potential

Following conflicting reports on the exact amount of energy Mexico generates from wind power – accounts vary from 5000 MW to 71,000 MW – the country’s authorities are preparing an investigation to assess the true potential, according to a report by El Financiero.

Leopoldo Rodriguez, director of the Mexican Association of Wind Energy (Amdee), has said recently that there is no clear idea of the dimension and potential wind energy can provide to the country.

According to Rodriguez, the country has identified so far wind farm projects that together generate 10,000 MW (equivalent to a sixth of the Mexico’s total capacity) but “we have the potential for a substantially higher amount.”
