Invenergy Acquires 156 MW Des Moulins Wind Power Project in Quebec

Invenergy Wind LLC ("Invenergy") announced the closing of an agreement to acquire the Des Moulins wind energy project in Quebec, Canada from wind developer 3Ci. Once operational, Des Moulins will be a 156 MW wind farm producing enough clean, renewable energy to power more than 50,000 homes.

The Des Moulins wind farm is located in the municipalities of Kinnear’s Mills, St-Jean-de-Brebeuf, and Thetford Mines, and is expected to begin commercial operation in 2013. It has a 20-year power supply contract with Hydro-Quebec.

"Invenergy is pleased to strengthen our commitment to Quebec with this new opportunity to produce clean, renewable power," said Frits de Kiewit, Director of Business Development at Invenergy Wind Canada. "Des Moulins wind farm will bring significant economic benefits to the local area, and we look forward to a long and successful relationship with our host community."

"3Ci is very pleased for the landowners, municipalities, and other local stakeholders," said Robert Vincent, President of 3Ci. "The early and continuous support demonstrated in the region, along with Invenergy’s proven track record, will make this important project a success.”

Des Moulins will connect to a 230 kV power transmission line of the Hydro-Quebec TransEnergie transmission grid at a substation located near the power line. The project will consist of ENERCON E-82 2.3 MW wind turbines. ENERCON Canada Inc. headquarters are located in Montreal, with a manufacturing facility in Matane.

This will be Invenergy’s third wind farm in Quebec. Both the 138.6 MW Le Plateau Wind Energy Centre ("Le Plateau"), which is under construction and scheduled for completion in 2011, and the 23 MW Le Plateau 2 Wind Energy Centre, an expansion of Le Plateau that will be completed in 2013, also have 20-year power purchase agreements with Hydro-Quebec.

Invenergy and its affiliated companies develop, own and operate large-scale renewable and other clean energy generation facilities in North America and Europe. Invenergy is committed to clean power alternatives and continued innovation in electricity generation. Invenergy’s home office is located in Chicago and it has regional development offices throughout the United States and in Canada and Europe.

Invenergy and its affiliated companies currently have over 6,400 MW of wind energy, solar power, and thermal projects under contract, in construction, or in operation.
